Coffs Harbour Liquor Accord

The Coffs Harbour Liquor Accord Inc is a partnership between key stakeholders focused on harm minimisation and the Responsible Service of Alcohol. All parties work together to improve safety and the local environment.

Its strategy is to proactively address community issues through collaboration between licensees, Police, local authorities, health services, businesses, residents and visitors.

Our Aims and Objectives

We acknowledge the need to minimise harm associated with misuse and abuse of liquor (including harm arising from violence and other anti-social behaviour).

We acknowledge the need to encourage responsible attitudes and practices towards the promotion, sale, supply, service and consumption of liquor.

We acknowledge the need to ensure that the sale, supply and consumption of liquor contributes to, and does not detract from, the amenity of community life.

We acknowledge the need to promote safety and positive perceptions about the precinct in which they are located.

We acknowledge the need to foster strong community relations and as such will proactively engage with local residents over issues of concern.

Members acknowledge that they represent a partnership and will strive to ensure that their actions and the operations of their respective businesses will reflect the values stated here.

The project has implemented a series of strategies that are designed to improve alcohol related issues in the Coffs Harbour local area. These strategies were implemented by coordinating actions and establishing partnerships between groups, including state and local government, local businesses, community organisations and residents. Ongoing consultation with stakeholders will aim to create new projects or improve on existing projects so as to ensure a pro-active approach to alcohol related issues in the Coffs Harbour local area are addressed.

The Accord recognises that there is a commitment to an education process, but does not exclude the need for enforcement where necessary, irrespective of membership of the Accord.

In NSW Liquor accords are voluntary industry-based partnerships working in local communities to introduce practical solutions to liquor-related problems. They reach agreements on ways to improve the operation of licensed venues so that entertainment venues and precincts are safe and enjoyable.
